The Nitestar Alpha 300 has a square base giving your legs more room to move around in the night. Apart from that is shares the same characteristics to the bestselling Nitestar range and comes with a 3 season rating and a respectable pack size of 33 x 27cm.
Quality Construction
The outer shell of this bag features Vango’s Polair® Hex Shell which is a lightweight and durable 210T polyester based fabric with a hexagonally embossed design to give a technical look. The inner shell is made from 100% Polyester 190T Brushed Fabric which is soft touch for added comfort. A recent addition to this range is Vango’s new Alpha insulation which is a single-hole siliconized hollow fibre designed to compress down more than traditional hollowfibre fillings and has the added benefit of keeping its thermal performance even when wet. With an internal length of 205cm this bag is suitable for adults up to 190cm in height.
Key Features
For easy opening and closing the sleeping bag comes with a two-way auto-locking zip, so you can open or close it from inside and outside the bag. Down the length of the zip is a guard to minimise snagging and then an insulated baffle which stops any cold spots or draughts coming in. The auto-lock feature prevents the bag from opening when you don’t want it to once again preserving the warm air inside. If the weather becomes warmer you can open the additional zip from the base of the bag for ventilation. Hanging loops sewn into the base of the bag allow you to easily hang it up to air when you get back from your trip. The handy internal pocket is ideal for storing a torch or valuables.
How it Keeps You Warm
The bag is filled with Vango’s premium Alpha insulation which is designed to give a great level of loft whilst packing down smaller than fillings used in previous models. It also performs even when wet making it ideal for use in Autumn and Winter without worrying about a decrease in performance should the weather turn. The bag also features an insulated shoulder baffle and zip baffle so you can effectively trap the warm air around your body and stop it escaping from out of the top of the sleeping bag.
The 3D hood is constructed to fit more closely around your head reducing heat loss and providing a more comfortable sleep as the hood turns with you in the night. A drawcord closure allows you to pull the hood down tight when the weather really takes a turn.
Premium Dual Layer Construction
All of the Nitestar Range feature dual layer construction which is a premium manufacturing technique which creates a more thermally efficient sleeping bag. Rather than using a single layer of insulation which is sewn onto the outside shell of the bag, dual layer construction uses two layers of insulation in the bag which are sewn into the inner and outer shells. The Nitestar 350 utilizes two 175g/m² layers of Vango’s Alpha insulation.
By offsetting the sewing patterns this method overcomes the cool spots and thermal leak you can get where the stitching squeezes the insulation together stopping it from trapping air and keeping the user warm. An added benefit is the creation of an additional layer of air between the two layers of insulation creating more warmth without adding any bulk when packed away.
Compact Pack Size
Even with it’s 3 season rating and synthetic insulation the Nitestar 300 Quad still packs down 33 x 27cm and is 2kg in weight. The addition of a matching compression sack enables you to shrink the bag down even further if pack size is a concern when camping. The four durable straps around the stuff sack can be tensioned to force the insulation down to a more compact size.
